The number of islands off Croatia’s coast reaches well over a thousand. Some of them are well-known holiday destinations. These include the islands of Krk, Rab, Korčula and Brač. Each has its own peculiarities, its own charms.

Brač is also known for the Golden Horn beach. For many travellers to Croatia it is one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Brač is also known for the white limestone quarried here, from which famous buildings such as the White House in Washington were built.

Like Brač, you can get to know the island of Korčula on a bike and boat trip in South Dalmatia. Nature on this island is shaped by its pine forests. Korčula is sometimes referred to as a black island due to the relatively dark appearance of the trees. Others also call it the Green Island. The largest town on Korčula is the town of the same name with its beautiful medieval town centre and the supposed birthplace of Marco Polo.

Together with Cres, Krk is the largest of the Adriatic islands. On Krk you will find beautiful bays and beaches as well as various charming villages, of which the town of Krk is the largest. Worth seeing are, for example, the cathedral and the neighbouring church of St. Quirin. Vrbnik in the east of Krk is also an island town worth seeing and a worthwhile destination for a cycling and boat trip in Croatia. The region is home to the Žlahtina grape variety, which produces a white wine produced only here.

To get to know Krk, you can book a Rückenwind combination of cycling holidays and boat trips that will take you through the Kvarner Bay. The island of Rab is also a destination on this trip by boat and bike. And of course, this island also offers attractive sandy beaches: There’s about thirty of them. Rab is sometimes called a happy island. The largest village is the town of Rab, whose old town is already more than 2000 years old. The four church towers of the old town, one of which belongs to the cathedral of Rab, are striking and very impressive.

In addition to the four islands mentioned here, which you can reach with boat and bike trips through Croatia, there are others that are destinations for Rückenwind trips and all worth a visit: Dugi Otok, Šipan, Pag and Cres are just a few examples. You’ll enjoy getting to know her. But with the bike and boat trips of Rückenwind you will not only get to know the beautiful island world of Croatia. You learn to love her.

The heart of Europe: Welcome to Istria!

The Istrian peninsula is sometimes referred to as the heart of Europe. Like Dalmatia, it belongs to the mainland regions of Croatia. Cycling and boat trips through these regions usually get to know the islands off the coast. At the same time, you will quickly learn that the coastal mainland of Croatia has just as much charm, that it looks just as beautiful and just as attractive. On a Rückenwind tour through Istria by bike and boat, you will get to know such traditional Croatian cities as Poreč, Pula, Rovinj and Novigrad.

Pula is considered the secret capital of Istria and is the starting point of the trip. The emblem of the city, which is characterised by Roman architecture, is the amphitheatre, which was built in the time of Emperor Augustus. Poreč is one of the most important and beautiful towns on the coast of Istria. The most famous building in the city is the Euphrasius Basilica. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its surrounding complex and is an outstanding example of late antiquity and early Byzantine times.

Rovinj is one of the most romantic towns on the Adriatic with its small picturesque streets. One of the outstanding buildings here is the Church of St. Euphemia. Rovinj is also known as a meeting place for many artists; Parts of the city sometimes turn into a large open-air gallery. Another very appealing destination on the Rückenwind trip by bike and boat in Istria is Novigrad. The small town, whose history dates back to ancient times, is still almost entirely surrounded by a city wall and has retained the charm of a small fishing village.

The coast of the 1000 islands: Dalmatia

Dalmatia is called the coastal region between the cities of Dubrovnik and Zadar. It is considered one of the most beautiful and sunniest landscapes in Croatia. Rückenwind Reisen offers you an exciting journey by bike and boat in northern and southern Dalmatia. The journey to northern Dalmatia starts in Zadar. This city, which was once built into a fortress by the Venetians, is now part of the World Cultural Heritage Site “Venetian Defense System of the 15th to 17th Century. ”

The combination of cycling holidays and boat trips will take you to the many islands of the Kornati National Park and the impressive Krka waterfalls in North Dalmatia. where scenes of the famous Winnetou films were shot. The nature here is breathtakingly beautiful.

Just as beautiful as the journey through North Dalmatia is the one through South Dalmatia. The ship starts at Trogir. It takes you to islands such as Brač and Korčula as well as to the city of Dubrovnik and finally returns to Trogir. In the historical centre of Trogir there are many magnificent and imposing Romantic, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings. So many and important are these that UNSECO declared the entire Old Town part of the World Heritage in 1997. The Old Town of Dubrovnik has been a World Heritage Site since 1979. You will arrive in South Dalmatia on the fourth day of your trip by boat and bike.

Dubrovnik is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities in the entire Mediterranean region. Impressive are not only the completely walk-in city walls surrounding the city, but also numerous buildings. These include, for example, the Lovrjenac fortress and the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. In addition to all the architectural highlights, it is of course also the sea that will delight you again and again on this Croatia trip. Cycling and boat trips in Croatia are always bathing holidays, at least in the warm season. Wonderfully nice bathing holidays.
