Danube bike path
Along the Danube - the most popular European cycle route
Individual arrival in Schärding or Passau. In the late afternoon welcome briefing and bike handover (if booked).
You cycle through the Donauleiten nature reserve to the Schlögener Schlinge. Insurmountable granite forces the river to make a 180-degree bend here.
Your route takes you to Linz with its numerous pubs in the historic old town. The Capital of Culture 2009 shows a successful transformation from an industrial to a cultural metropolis.
Via St. Florian you reach Enns and finally the baroque town of Grein with one of the oldest municipal theatres in Austria and Greinburg Castle.
The Strudengau, a section of the Danube once feared by shipmen, is now known as a charming Danube valley. A destination in the region: the pilgrimage church in Maria Taferl, which attracts thousands of pilgrims every year.
The town of Melk with the monastery of the same name is your first destination today. You cycle through the beautiful landscape of the Wachau to Traismauer or Tulln. A wine tasting also awaits you today.
You reach Vienna with its numerous sights. Perhaps you will visit St. Stephen's Cathedral or treat yourself to a ride in a "Fiaker"?

The route
Easy - Flat or slightly downhill along the Danube; well-built cycling path almost all the way without motor vehicles. Minor roads make up only very short sections of this route – the Danube cycle path is a perfect example of a cycle route.
