Arrival in Lienz
Today you will be given your tour documents and your rental bikes. We recommend going for an initial stroll through the beautiful old part of town.
This is a stunning warm-up tour! In the morning you will take the train to Toblach. The mountain world of the Dolomites will blow you away! Discover the best-known mountain formation – the '3 crenellations’ – in the nature park house in Toblach. Then you cycle at a comfortable pace along the river Drava's cycle path back towards Austria. After that you gently descend over approx. 500 metres and soon you will find yourself back at your luxurious accommodation.
You cycle through the Lienzer plain via lush meadows to Lake Tristacher See. This lake is slightly elevated, so a short ascent is unavoidable before you can plunge into the crystal clear waters of this mountain lake to cool off. Lock up your bike and take a leisurely stroll around the lake amidst marvellous nature.
The wonderfully designed cycle path along the river Isel starts directly at the foot of Bruck palace. Whilst cycling on mainly flat terrain, marvel at the stunning mountain panorama of the Hohe Tauern mountain region. You might even get a glimpse of Austria’s highest summi, the Großglockner mountain! In the national park house in Matrei, you can learn all about the nature and culture in East Tyrol!
Take a ride with the Lienzer Mountain railway and ascend comfortably by Schlossbergbahn cable car up to the Moosalm at an altitude of 1000 metres! The cable car ride in itself is an experience due to the unique view onto the city of Lienz and the surrounding mountains. At the top you then embark on a loop walk (walking time approx. 2 hours), which leads you to a little church called 'Reiterkirchl’ and then back to where you started. If you have not yet done so already, we recommend that you treat yourself to the spa area at the hotel!
Today you enter a new province just after a few kilometres. The Drau cycle path leads you to Carinthia. Once impressive castles have now crumbled to ruins, however they still keep a watchful eye over the narrow river valley. You cycle along marvellous paths through little farm villages all the way to Greifenburg. The Celts, who were the first settlers in this area, already knew what an especially beautiful spot this is. Return journey by train to Lienz.
Beautifully designed cycle paths mainly along the rivers Drau and Isel. Sometimes you cycle on side roads with very little traffic. The terrain is mainly flat and asphalted, only on the section to Lake Tristacher See are there a few smaller ascents to be tackled.
