Your holiday begins in the town of Rothenburg in the Tauber Valley, which is well-known from America to Japan. The old town was rebuilt after it was completely destroyed in the 30 years war and is practically unchanged since then. The town walls with its towers and gateways are a good example of urban fortification. Rental bikes await you in your hotel. Accommodation in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
The first day of cycling begins with a two options up on the Alb plateau. Although a little out of the way, we recommend you visit the source of the Altmuehl (approx. 16 km). The hardier can then make the steep ascent to Colmberg Castle, which hasn’t changed since the 12th century. From here you can go to Ansbach and its beautiful Rococo castle of the Brandenburg electoral princes and the Hofbräuhaus.

You follow theGerman Castle Road cycle path past Wasserburg Castle in Lichtenau. Windsbach and Abenberg are charming little towns with very old town centres. In Roth itself don't miss visiting Margrave castle of Ratibor. Near Katzwang you arrive at the Rhine-Main-Danube-Canal, which leads you to Nuremberg. You will pass many breweries offering their beer along the route, including the brewery of the discalced friars.

Today you have to make a difficult choice: You can cycle the 80 km Regnitz Cycle Path through picturesque valleys, towns and small villages following the winding Regnitz River, or you can pick the 70 km long route along the Main-Danube-Canal. You could also combine both routes and/or shorten part of the route by taking the train. Today's destination is Bamberg, one of the “capital cities of beer”. Accommodation in Bamberg
The first part of today´s route takes you to Hirschaid; you can also shorten this part of the route by taking the train (ticket not included). In Hirschaid, enter Aisch Valley. After the halfway point on today´s route, you can take a break in Höchstadt, to taste the famous mirror carps, before returning to Neustadt.
