In Donaueschingen start you journey at the spring in the park of the Dukes Fürstenberg castle.
Use the day and explore the residential city.
Pleasant cycling on very good and flat roads through a countryside called “Baar”. A short stop in Immendingen for a special natural spectacle: the vanishing of river Danube. Here the river for the most time of the year simply vanishes in porous lime stone, to flow instead into the Black Sea to Aachtop, Lake Constance and Rhine to the North Sea. Behind Möhringen you reach Tuttlingen.
Today you see one of the tour highlights, the Danube breakthrough. Near Fridingen railway and traffic leave the valley, which is now only shared by cyclists and hiker to the old Benedictine monastery Beuron. Overnight in Fridingen or Beuron.
Today you follow the bends of Danube in the valley of Sigmaringen. The History of Sigmaringen was influenced by the aristocratic family Hohenzollern. The castle Hohenzollern still is owned by the Swabian line of the aristocratic family. Take part at a guided tour and see the substantial collection of arms.
Get a good glimpse of local history in Hundersingen with the ancient Zehntscheuer and Heuneburg museum with a first overview of the Celtic area and interesting original finds. Continue the archaeological tour past impressive grave-hills to Heuneburg, one of the most important residences of Celtic dukes north of the Alps. Very detailed reconstruction works let you get an idea of life 2500 years ago.
The city Riedlingen was in the property of the aristocratic family Hohenzollern as well. The cycle tour leads along the Baroque route. The next baroque monastery can be visited in Obermarchtal. Past tidy half-timbered town Munderkingen you reach Ehingen.
Today you leave the modern Danube and cycle via Allmendingen and Schelklingen through the valley of original Danube to Blaubeuren. Here behind the monastery you find famous Blautopf (blue pot), a strong Karst spring and start of a labyrinth of caves, once legendary seat of beautiful Lau. Medieval fortresses and ruins seam your way as you cycle along beautiful Blau to Swabian-Bavarian double city Ulm with the highest spire worldwide. Enjoy the unique flair of the metropolis.
After breakfast you either take the train to return to your car or start your journey home. We are happy to assist you with booking extra days.
You cycle on the Danube cycle trail along the river on mainly flat roads. The old riverside roads were mostly asphalted with only very little traffic. This makes the tour especially family friendly.
