10-lakes Round trip | Sportive

Enjoy the shining lake district of the Salzkammergut

What is lovelier than being out and about, cycling along the banks of lakes, and just letting your spirit soar in a marvellous natural landscape? The cycle tour through the Salzkammergut and the Trumer Seen lake area is wonderfully suited for this. Only a few kilometres beyond Salzburg, you will be greeted by the luxury of a unique natural panorama. The gentle, hilly landscape of Salzburg’s alpine foothills has a charm all of its own. You will cycle through meadows and moorlands to Oberndorf – the place associated with the Christmas carol "Silent Night" - and also to the old imperial town of Bad Ischl. In a way, you will be travelling through a whole world of clichés transformed into realities. The ten lakes round tour is active recreation, experiencing nature and enjoying many attractions, such as the Schafberg mountain and the Orth castle.

Itinerary

Tour information and bike handover (if booked) will take place in the late afternoon. Stroll through the famous Getreidegasse and across the imposing Residenzplatz. Numerous restaurants and cafés invite you to linger and savour typical Austrian delicacies.

Along the Salzach to Oberndorf (birthplace of the Christmas carol ‘Silent Night’) and through extensive alluvial forests to Tittmoning. From here on the ‘Lower Inn Nature Experience Trail’ to Burghausen. A magnificent old town centre and the largest castle complex in Central Europe are the most outstanding features of this town. Then on to the Holzöster See lake.

Over gentle hills to Michaelbeuern (abbey) and on to the Trumer Seenland. Then along Lake Obertrum to Seekirchen. Then along Lake Obertrum to Seekirchen. It is easy cycling across lush meadows to Thalgau and the shores of Lake Mondsee.

First you cycle along the shore of Lake Mondsee, then to Lake Attersee. In Unterach you board a boat that takes you across the lake to Attersee (not in June, then 14 km more cycle route). Your
Your destination for the day is the ceramics village of Gmunden, where you will spend the night and have dinner at the comfortable Seehotel Schwan.

Along the River Traun via Bad Ischl to Lake Hallstatt. After circling the lake, you should visit the world-famous Hallstatt (‘most beautiful lake town in the world’, oldest salt mine). Bad Ischl (Kaiserpark, Kaiservilla, Sissi's Teehaus) is once again on the way (Kaiserpark, Kaiservilla, Sissi's Teehaus) to Lake Wolfgang: St. Wolfgang (Weißes Rößl, parish church, cog railway up the Schafberg), Strobl, Abersee (Zinkenbachklamm gorge) and St. Gilgen, the Mozart village on Lake Wolfgang are stage stops.

Along the cycle path to St. Gilgen (‘Mozart village’). A longer ascent has to be cycled to the Fuschlsee and into the Tiefbrunnau. Then past the Hintersee lake and through the Strubklamm gorge into the Wiestal valley (reservoir). From Hallein on the Tauern cycle path to Salzburg. Shortly before entering the city, Hellbrunn Palace (park, zoo, trick fountains) is well worth a visit. The destination is the festival and Mozart city of Salzburg with its numerous sights (fortress, old town).

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.
