Itinerary

Arrival in the culturally rich city of Mozart. Take enough time for a stroll through the historic city centre and visit Mozart's birthplace. Your bikes will be ready for you at your booked accommodation (if booked).

You follow the course of the Salzach river and soon reach Hallein. A detour into the romantic Bluntautal valley is worthwhile for the tireless. When you reach your stage destination of Golling, you should plan enough time to visit the waterfall, which is well worth seeing.

On today's stage, you first cycle to Werfen, where Hohenwerfen Castle towers high above the Salzach river. In Bischofshofen you can admire the ski jump, where the final of the Four Hills Tournament is held every year.

You can quickly get to Bruck an der Glocknerstraße on your bike. For sporty cyclists, you can also cycle around Lake Zell, while leisurely cyclists can use it for a refreshing dip. Just a short distance and you have reached today's stage destination of Kaprun. From there, there are excellent bus connections to the high mountain reservoirs.

After breakfast, take the local Pinzgaubahn railway to Krimml. There you should definitely visit the largest waterfalls in Europe. Then it's off through the Hohe Tauern National Park and the so-called Oberpinzgau, with snow-capped three-thousand metre peaks as your constant companions.

You quickly reach Lake Zell again, where you can take another relaxing dip. Via Maria Alm with its famous pilgrimage church, you quickly reach Saalfelden, where you can enjoy your lunch break. Further highlights on your way to Lofer are the Seisenbergklamm gorge and the Lamprechtshöhle cave near Weißbach.

On your last stage back to Salzburg, you cycle through the tranquil Saalachtal valley. The Bavarian town of Bad Reichenhall in the small German corner will enchant you with its Bavarian flair. Just a short distance and you have reached the starting point of your cycle tour in Salzburg again. Spoil yourself with culinary delights in the evening and review the many impressions and experiences of your cycle tour.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.

Tour character

Easy to moderate

The Tauern Cycle Trail is signposted throughout and very extensively. The route runs on quiet, tarmac cycle paths and country roads, with only some sections on busier routes. Some short stages also have to be tackled on non-asphalted cycle paths. On the whole, the quality of the paths can be described as very good. You will have to reckon with slight inclines in places, so some basic fitness is recommended for this variant.
