Discover the open-minded port and home of Rubens Antwerp, walk along the monuments in the old trade-centres Gent, Brugge and the quiet Mechelen. Take in the special flair of the countryside of Flanders and treat yourself with a holiday for body, soul and mind. Cycling along through a lovely countryside, idyllic little villages, quiet river-meadows, channels lined by poplars, light-flooded forests and green meadows with grazing cows and horses.

You receive you rental bikes (if booked) in the morning. Afterwards you go by bicycle through the harbour into the centre of Antwerp and long the rivers Schelde and Rupel. Hotel in the centre of the “chime-makers town” Mechelen, you go right into the centre of the historic old town with buildings dating back to the 14th to 18th century.

First you cycle along the Rupel, later back to the Schelde – with a brief passage on a little ferry. Detour into the centre of the little town Dendermonde possible (to have a coffee break on a lovely flemish market place or to change with the bicycle on the train to Gent). Today’s hotel is situated in the centre of the old cloth fabricating and modern university town Gent.

The idyllic countryside around the little meandering river Leie inspired artists for centuries. Noble villas with parks and past house-boats on small roads back to Gent.

Crossing the wide Flemish plain and along channels we cycle to the unrivalled „Museum Town“ Brugge: situated on the river Reie, streaked with „Grachten“ – little channels and with a medieaval character.

Along a quiet, poplar lined channel we first see the “city of Till Eulenspiegel” Damme, than we travel on to the sea-bath Knokke. In the afternoon we proceed to the lively town on the Netherland boarder Sluis. From there you go back to Bruges.

The route

Easy: The dense network of flat roads almost always asphalted and with only spare traffic, offers ideal conditions for cycling for everybody. Additionally the dense network of the railway offers ample possibility to take the train if a spell of rain is threatening.
