Caunes-Minervois centre based tour

Beauty and pleasure in Occitania

Beauty and pleasure in Occitania

Occitania in southern France is characterised by beauty and pleasure. The region is home to world-famous orange, red and white marble, which was used in St Peter's Basilica, for example. But grapes for excellent wines and truffles also grow here, helping to turn this trip into a culinary feast. Celebrate this feast with a stay of several days in Caunes-Minervois and daily excursions in the surrounding area. Experience one of the most beautiful waterways in France, the Canal du Midi, and the largest fortified city in Europe, Carcassonne. Every single day in Occitania is an unforgettable experience.

Itinerary

Individual arrival to Caunes. You will receive your bike (if booked) in the late afternoon. Then explore Caunes-Minervois and its sights.

Today you will visit the king's quarries. The region's marble can be found in the magnificent Palace of Versailles and the Louvre as well as in the Invalides and St Peter's Basilica.

Today you cycle to Puicheric on the Canal du Midi and visit the Écluse de l' Aiguille lock with works of art by lock artist Joel Barthez. The village of Puicheric invites you into small wine boutiques, among other things.

You travel to the municipality of Lastours, which is known for the ruins of four mighty Cathar castles. A visit to the municipality of Villeneuve-Minervois with its famous truffles and a small truffle museum is also worthwhile.

You cycle to the AOC appellation of La Livinière. Some of the best wines in the region are grown here. The villages with their small churches and châteaux are also very picturesque. During a tasting (optional, not organised), a winegrower is sure to reveal many a secret about winegrowing.

Today we are travelling to the World Heritage Site Cité de Carcassonne. The largest fortified city in Europe dates back to the 12th century and was faithfully rebuilt after being destroyed in the 19th century.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.
