Vannes is an old residence with many historic and medieval buildings, city wall and towers. This beautiful little town is start and end of the tour. Between 6 and 7.30 pm the bicycles will be handed out and first introduction of the tour.
Start the day with a city tour of Vannes, to be managed easily by bicycle. In the afternoon you cy-cle to fisher port Anna, to be combined with an optional excursion to island Arz.
Surrounded by water of the Gulf the monks used to live on the island you visit today. One of the most beautiful dolmens can be seen here. By boat you go to Locmariaquer, where you find your second hotel directly in the idyllic fisher port.
Explore the world-famous row of Megalith stones of Carnac, impressive testimonials of a long lost early culture. Equally worth a visit is one of the most beautiful subterranean tumulus (gravesites). Afterwards lovely sandy beaches on the Atlantic Ocean invite you to take a swim.
Today a lovely tour past oyster farms to the historic port of St. Goustan in Auray (approx. 40 km) is awaiting you. If you are interested in holy places you might wish to make an excursion to the Britannic pilgrim’s church Ste-Anne-d’Áuray (+ 15km). Your overnight is in Locmariaquer.
You start with a marvellous cycle tour back to Vannes. Cross the spectacular Gulf-gap by boat and continue to cycle along the Atlantic coast to “big mountain on the sea” of St. Gildas and to the castle-fortress of Suscinio. Along unspoilt beaches you reach the peninsula Rhuys and afterwards you go back to Vannes.
a) Optional excursion to the wild island Belle-île-en Mer. No possibility to bring the rental bicycles of your tour. Bicycle rent on the island is possible. Details are available locally.
b) Kervillier valley (approx. 48 km). Varied and interesting cycle tour into Britanny to the oldest oktagonal fortresstower of France in Largoet. Return to Vannes through marvellous Kervillier Valley.
After breakfast the tour is completed.
This is an easy tour with only a few small climbs. You cycle on quiet roads and country lanes. On the islands you might expect some wind from the front. Please note that the costs for ferry passages to the islands are not included in the package price.
