The first stage takes you through the Ammerland parkland to the spa town of Bad Zwischenahn. Savour the well-known delicacy: Smoortaal - freshly caught smoked eel ‘Ammerland style’. The garden park of the climatic health resort combines garden styles from all over the world.

Via Remels (the highest point in East Frisia at 18 metres (59 ft) !) you travel to Wiesmoor.

The route leads through secluded fen settlements to Aurich, where the East Frisian chieftains and counts ruled for centuries. Then follow the Ems-Jade Canal to Emden. The seaport city was one of the richest port cities in Europe, but never a member of the Hanseatic League. Afterwards you have the opportunity to stroll through the town or visit one of the three museum ships in the harbour.

You cycle through “Krummhörn” to picturesque fisher village Greetsiel, the biggest prawn-crab-fisher port of Weser-Ems region. Don´t pass by without having a couple crabs. Past the bay of Ley – where you might be lucky to spot seals – you cycle to Norden, resp. Norddeich on Wadden sea (Wattenmeer). One overnight in Norden or surrounding area.

Norderney is the oldest seaside spa on the North Sea, which has attracted visitors seeking recuperation for over 200 years. The ferry takes about 1 h from Norddeich to the island which is ideally suited to be explored by bicycle. Enjoy the island, the beach-life and National Park “Wattenmeer” (mudflats). Ferry cruise incl. bicycle is not included in the package price, visitor´s tax payable locally. One overnight in Norden or surrounding area.

Via Dornum to the most beautiful moated castle in East Frisia and on through the marshland to the former East Frisian chieftain town of Esens, you reach Wittmund. Look forward to charming brick architecture, two gallery Dutch mills and the East Frisian way of life. An overnight stay in Wittmund or Jever.

From Wittmund to medieval Jever and on to Gödens Castle.
