Itinerary

You start your journey in the enchanting town of Lindau on the shores of Lake Constance. As the sun sets, take a leisurely evening stroll and discover the iconic lighthouse and the picturesque island harbor, both exuding a timeless charm that perfectly sets the tone for your adventure.

After a few kilometers along the lakeshore, you leave Lake Constance behind and cycle north along the German-Austrian border. Take one last look back to enjoy the stunning panoramic view of the Alps. Your destination today is Oberstaufen, a charming market town in the Upper Allgäu. Visit the local cheese dairy to see how delicious cheeses are made, or immerse yourself in the region's rich history at one of the local museums.

You’ll cycle through stunning valleys, passing the large Lake Alpsee on your way to Immenstadt. Noteworthy sights include the Alte Hof, which once served as a residence for ruling families, and the charming Villa Edelweiß. Continuing past Lake Rottachsee and numerous lovingly decorated chapels, you’ll reach the picturesque town of Nesselwang, a popular spa resort. The typical Allgäu foothill landscape will accompany you as you ride by Lakes Hopfensee and Forggensee towards Füssen. From a distance, you’ll catch a glimpse of the fairytale-like castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.

You leave the charming town of Füssen heading towards Murnau, cycling through idyllic meadows and alongside the Lake Bannwaldsee. Your route will bring you to the world-famous Wieskirche, a prime example of Bavarian Rococo, perfect for a rest stop. Continuing past the moorland of the Murnauer Moos, you'll arrive in Murnau, beautifully situated by the Lake Staffelsee with its seven islands, all set against the backdrop of the Upper Bavarian Alps.

Cycle past the shimmering waters of Lake Kochelsee and through the enchanting landscape of Benediktbeuern on your way to the charming town of Bad Tölz. Here, the exquisitely adorned townhouses stand as elegant reminders of the bygone era of the salt trade. A leisurely stroll down the historic Market Street is an absolute must for every visitor. The route then meanders through the picturesque Tegernsee countryside, gently rolling hills guiding you to the shores of Lake Tegernsee. From Gmund, revel in breathtaking panoramic views of the lake. Your journey continues along the Lake Constance-Lake Königssee Bike Path, leading you to the serene beauty of Schliersee.

You'll start your ride along the lake shore and then continue through the gently rolling Bavarian foothills towards Bad Feilnbach. Known for its 30,000 fruit trees and mild climate, this spa town has earned the nickname "Bavarian Merano." Passing through the largest peat bog area in Bavaria, the Kollerfilze, you'll soon reach Neubeuern. Here, you'll notice the town's emblem, two crossed ship hooks, symbolizing its key industry—shipbuilding. From there, you’ll pedal along the base of the Chiemgau Alps, heading towards your destination Bernau, Prien or Aschau on the southern shore of the "Bavarian Sea."

The mountains grow higher, but the cycling route remains nearly flat. You'll pass through the "Bergener Moos" at the foot of the Chiemgau's local peak, the Hochfelln (1,674 m), traveling via Bad Adelholzen to Siegsdorf. In Inzell, a charming spa town, you'll admire Lüftlmalerei, the traditional frescoes decorating the flower-adorned houses. Your path then winds between the mountains through Piding, following the Saalach River to Bad Reichenhall, a renowned spa town since 1890. Enjoy a piece of cake at the famous Konditorei Reber before continuing your ride to the renowned Berchtesgaden and on to the picturesque Lake Königssee.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.
