At the lakes Ammersee, Starnberger See and Kochelsee

You will encounter illustrious names on this cycle tour. There are often reports in the media about the chic crowd on Lake Starnberg, about one of Bavaria's most beautiful beer gardens in Andechs Monastery, about the pioneer of modern art - the Blue Rider, about the TV hit ‘Der Bulle von Tölz’. You will experience stories and history at first hand during your cycle tour from one glittering lake to the next. You are sure to have your own anecdote to tell about this beautiful region afterwards.

Itinerary

Individual journey to Munich. Information and bike hire. The state capital of Bavaria awaits its visitors with numerous sights (English Garden, Town Hall, Hofbräuhaus, ...).

From Munich, first through Forstenrieder Park. This former hunting ground of the Wittelsbach dynasty is a paradise for nature lovers with an area of 2,100 hectares. Via Gauting, the route then follows the Royal Bavarian Cycle Path on a slightly hilly route towards Lake Ammersee. However, the stately Andechs Monastery is located along the way. A hearty snack with a Mass (included) in the shady beer garden is definitely worth a visit before descending to the lakeshore. Then take a leisurely boat trip from Herrsching to Dießen. Overnight accommodation is in Herrsching or Dießen.

Today you start along the Ammer river to Weilheim in Pfaffenwinkel. The 159 churches and numerous monasteries give this area its name. The route takes you across lush meadows and through deep green forests to the shores of Lake Starnberg. Overnight stops are Bernried or Ambach.

Today you cycle round what is probably the most famous Bavarian lake. The cycle path leads from one lakeside village to the next, past the villas of Bavarian celebrities, quaint shady guest gardens and dreamy bathing bays.

Right at the start, you cycle past the idyllic Easter Lakes. These form a chain of 19 small lakes and are naturally ideal for swimming. You then cycle through traditional Bavarian villages and along the Riegsee lake before reaching Murnau with its beautiful town square. Passing the Murnauer Moos and the famous Schwaiganger horse stud, you soon come to the Kochelsee. The beautiful Franz Marc Museum is highly recommended here!

A short stage with plenty of time to enjoy. After just a few kilometres through the Kocheler Moos, the shady beer garden of Benediktbeuern Abbey invites you to take your first break. Afterwards, there is plenty to see in Bad Tölz, where you will spend the night! Two old trade routes have made the town rich, as evidenced by the lavishly decorated town houses in the Marktstraße. If you feel like relaxing, the thermal waters of the ‘Alpamare’ spa are the perfect place to do so.

The Isar cycle path leads via Geretsried and Wolfratshausen to Grünwald. There are still a few small climbs to cycle before the state capital of Munich with its numerous sights is waiting to be explored.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.
