Itinerary

Individual journey to Munich. Information and bike hire. The state capital of Bavaria awaits its visitors with numerous sights (English Garden, Town Hall, Hofbräuhaus, ...).

From Munich through Forstenrieder Park to Lake Starnberg. From Starnberg along the cycle path directly on the lakeshore to Seeshaupt. On marvellous paths through quaint Bavarian villages past the Osterseen and Riegsee lakes to Murnau am Staffelsee.

Firstly through the Murnauer Moos nature reserve (the largest moorland area in Central Europe). Continue through unspoilt nature following the river Loisach to Garmisch Partenkirchen. The stage is deliberately kept short. You can therefore take a ride on the Zugspitzbahn railway to an altitude of 2962 m (on your own). From there you have a marvellous view over the Alps.

Cycle from Garmisch-Partenkirchen via Klais to the beautiful Barmsee lake. You then have the option of cycling directly to your overnight accommodation or taking a detour via Mittenwald and Scharnitz to the source of the Isar. A total of 300 metres in altitude are covered to Scharnitz, from there slightly uphill through wild and romantic gorges and lush alpine meadows to the source of the Isar. Return through the sunny high valley with marvellous panoramic views of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains via Mittenwald to Wallgau - a place where Bavarian traditions are still alive and well.

Past the Isarwinkel, following the crystal-clear, turquoise-blue water to the impressive Sylvensteinsee and via Lenggries through atmospheric countryside to Bad Tölz. The town at the intersection of two trade routes - the Isar and the old salt route from Reichenhall to the Allgäu - quickly developed into a flourishing trading centre. The richly decorated town houses still bear witness to this heyday.

The romantic Isar cycle path leads via Geretsried and Wolfratshausen to Grünwald. However, there are still a few small climbs to overcome before reaching the state capital of Munich with its numerous sights.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.
