Itinerary

Tour information and bike rental in the secret wine capital of Germany, with its winding alleyways, the mighty collegiate church and its Elwedritschenbrunnen fountain.

The route takes you through romantic wine-growing villages with a unique atmosphere. In the former fortress town of Landau, visit the medieval town department store on the town hall square and enjoy the view of the Rhine Valley from Landeck Fortress. In Bad Bergzabern, the baroque castle, the historic “Engel” and the Westwall Museum are well worth a visit.

Cycle through the wine gate in Schweigen directly to the Alsatian town of Wissembourg with its former Benedictine abbey and then cycle through the Bienwald forest and the Lauter valley to the Rhine. The baroque residence in Rastatt is an impressive end to the day.

After a beautiful section along the Rhine, the route leads to the old royal seat of Karlsruhe with its castle and pyramid. Through the largest nature reserve in the Palatinate, the Hördter Rheinauen, you reach the former fortified town of Germersheim. The Old Rhine takes you on to the imperial city of Speyer with its impressive cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The famous ensemble of palace and palace gardens in Schwetzingen is just a few kilometers away and is certainly another highlight of the tour. The tour continues through the Rhine plain to Heidelberg, home to Germany's oldest university. Visit the famous castle complex and the unique old town directly on the Neckar. Follow the Neckar to Ladenburg. The many half-timbered houses create a unique ambience. Follow the route through extensive wooded areas in the Rhine plain to the old imperial city of Worms (legendary cathedral).

A leisurely ride along the Rhine, partly on the idyllic paths of the Old Rhine arms to Oppenheim, the town of “Gothic and wine”. During a short ferry ride across the Rhine, you can already enjoy the view of Nierstein with its countless vineyards. Cycle directly through the vineyards towards the second imperial cathedral of the tour in Mainz.

In Mainz, you cross the Rhine and in romantic Rüdesheim, a ride on the cable car over the vineyards is a highly recommended experience. After crossing the Rhine again, you reach the mouth of the Nahe in Bingen and the intersection of four wine-growing regions. In addition to the Mäuseturm (Mouse Tower) in the Binger Loch, the 10th century Drusus Bridge and its bridge chapel are well worth a visit. The route leads up and down through the vineyards to the “Volkerstadt” of Alzey, which feels closely connected to its fiddler from the Song of the Nibelungs.

You reach the start of the German Wine Route in Bobenheim and cycle through the tranquil winegrowing town of Grünstadt. Beautiful wine-growing villages are the cultural highlights of this day. In Bad Dürkheim you come to the largest wine barrel in the world. In Deidesheim, the wine museum in the medieval town hall is well worth a visit and you cycle over the Balcony of the Palatinate to Neustadt, the secret German wine capital.
