The essentials at a glance

Cycle along the Danube from Regensburg, a UNESCO World Heritage city, to Passau, the three-river city. The mostly flat, traffic-free route follows asphalted riverside paths through the Bavarian landscape. Visit the Walhalla monument, explore Straubing and Deggendorf, and discover Vilshofen before reaching Passau. Easy to moderate difficulty, suitable for beginners and families. Daily distances average 40-55 km.

Itinerary

Individual arrival in Regensburg. Your rental bikes (if booked) are available at the start hotel. Discover Regensburg on a walking tour. It is the northernmost city on the Danube, is considered the best-preserved major German city and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take some time to explore the beautiful parks and gardens as well as the historic old town or visit one of the many museums.

The Danube now meanders through the wide plain and you cycle along at a leisurely pace. Take a short break at the Walhalla, built by King Ludwig I, before arriving at today's stage destination Straubing, the main town of the “Gäuboden” landscape. The Gäubodenfest, a popular folk festival, takes place here every summer.

Soon after the start, you reach Bogen, which is famous for the discovery of a statue of the pregnant Madonna. You continue through Pfelling and Mariaposching and finally reach the gateway to the Bavarian Forest: Deggendorf, where Gothic and Baroque characterize the old town.

On your way today is the historic town of Vilshofen, which you may know from the Ash Wednesday speeches of CSU chairman Strauß. You will soon reach your destination,
the three-river city and former bishop's residence of Passau. Round off your trip with a stroll through the old town.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.

Public parking garages are available for a fee, approx. € 10,- to € 20,- per day, no reservation possible, payable on site. Hotel parking available in individual hotels, subject to charges, details will follow with the travel documents.
