This self-guided bike tour follows the Saar, Moselle, and Rhine rivers through Germany over 8 days and 7 nights. The easy route runs mainly along riverbanks with few inclines, covering approximately 40-59 km daily. Highlights include Saarbrücken's Franco-German charm, the UNESCO World Heritage Völklinger Hütte, the Saar loop at Mettlach, Roman monuments in Trier, famous Moselle wine towns like Bernkastel-Kues and Traben-Trarbach, medieval Burg Eltz, and Koblenz at the German Corner.

From Saarbrücken to Coblenz

The Saar with its French flair and industrial history impresses with the World Cultural Heritage Site and the famous Saarsinusosity. The sinuous Mosel bike path takes you in wide loops from the Roman city of Trier to the Rhine. Enjoy your time in the saddle and the many lovely breaks. Discover Bernkastel Kues, Traben-Trarbach and Cochem, test the light, fruity Moselle wines and stroll through the narrow streets of delightful wine villages, before you enjoy the wide view above the beautiful Rhine Valley at the German Corner in Koblenz.

Itinerary

You can look forward to Saarbrücken with its Franco-German charm, the popular St. Johanner Markt with its pubs, bistros and restaurants and historical treasures such as Saarbrücken Castle and the Ludwigskirche. All car travellers can park their vehicle free of charge at the hotel, all rail travellers can travel to Saarbrücken main station. No matter how you arrive, your booked hire bike will be waiting for you at the hotel, ready to show you the Saarland.

You start on the Saar cycle path through the former coal mining area to Völklingen. The "Völklingen-cabin" is one of currently 33 World heritage sites by UNESCO in Germany. Then continue to follow the well-developed Saar Cycle Route through the beautiful countryside to the impressive Merziger-Saar-loop near Mettlach.

You cycle leisurely through wooded area up to Saarburg, on whose angled streets, the majestic castle perches. A café break in the very pretty city sets you up for the further bike path. Guided by the footsteps of the Romans, you cycle via Konstanz to Trier. It offers a unique tour of the old city, the Imperial Baths and the Porta Nigra.

Today there is a lot to see at the Mosel bike path: In Mehring the ruins of the Villa Rustica, in Trittenheim a wine trail, which provides informations about the work year of a vintner, local grape varieties and grape breeding. With Neumagen-Dhron attracts the oldest wine village in Germany. What could be better than to taste here a pint.

Such famous cities as Mosel Bernkastel-Kues and Traben-Trarbach and the famous wine region »Kröver Nacktarsch" crown the day. Marvel at the colorful, diverse timber on the picture-book marketplace in Bernkastel-Kues and Traben-Trarbach. Enjoy a wonderful trip by ship.

Today you will discover Enkirch, a jewel moselländischer timbered architecture, and cell, the wine village with the "Zell Black Cat." Insert a worthwhile break in small Beilstein that proudly leads the nickname "Rothenburg an der Mosel," and look forward to be Cochem with its picturesque center and the old imperial castle.

Today attracts a trip to the medieval Burg Eltz before the Moselle Cycle Path in so remarkable wine villages like Kobern Gondorf Winningen and leads finally to the German Corner. Enjoy the panoramic view of the beautiful Rhine Valley and look forward to a nice evening in Koblenz.

  • Return transfer by minibus to Saarbrücken (daily at 9 am), price EUR 129,- per person. We charge an additional EUR 45,- for the return transport of your own bike. Booking required.
