Boat and bike Danube | Passau-Vienna-Passau | MS Prinzessin Katharina

„The Danube in the rhythm of the waltz“

The bike tour along the German / Austrian Danube is a very special pleasure, because your “swimming hotel” is always with you! Gently downhill, you will cycle along lush green river banks, through small, dreamy villages in the impressive Danube landscapes. You will discover the breathtaking natural wonder of the “Great Loop” (a swift 180º turn!) and immerse yourself in legendary Wachau with its vineyard terraces and enchanted castles and monasteries. Then Vienna – an abundance of sights! A city, hardly to describe – you have to see and feel it! Sights like St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the city hall are easy to reach during a wonderful sightseeing tour by bike. A stroll through the Naschmarkt (famous food market) is a wonderful cultural and culinary adventure. You can also relax at any of the cosy coffee houses or at a typical traditional Viennese wine tavern in the suburbs. The highlights of the tour: Passau, the City of 3 rivers, the Schloegen Danube Loop, the World Heritage Site Wachau, Upper Austria’s capital Linz, the cosmopolitan city Vienna with a plethora of sights.

Itinerary

The Episcopal city close to the Austrian border is also known as the "City of three Rivers." Boarding time is at approx. 4-5 pm, departure around 7 pm Enjoy your first dinner on board and an evening sail to Engelhartszell.

Need a boost? Try some of the special cordials and liqueurs in the Trappist monastery in Engelhartszell. Supposedly, they have "special healing power." Downstream, the way leads you to pretty villages amid natural landscape. For a change take the little ferry boat through the romantic Schlögener loop, where the river makes a very abrupt 180 degree turn (approx. € 3,- per pers.). Shipping from Aschach to Linz. Tip: discover Linz, the capital of upper Austria while riding on the bright yellow City-Express.

Today there is time to discover the beauties of Vienna: perhaps the Hofburg, St. Stephen's Cathedral, the magnificent Ringstrasse boulevard with the State Opera, Burgtheater or City Hall? A boat trip to Budapest at night.

Early in the morning, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the majestic landscape of the Danube Bend and the breathtakingly beautiful panorama of Budapest from the sun deck. Explore the countless sights of Budapest or take a bike trip to the small artists‘ town of Szentendre with its lovingly restored old town, numerous churches and artists’ galleries. Boat trip to Visegrad at night.

The cycle tour through the Danube Bend is also an excursion into Hungary's history. From the former royal seat of Visegrad, you cycle through the picturesque, gently undulating landscape across the Szentendre peninsula to the baroque town of Vác with Hungary's only triumphal arch. You cycle back to Visegrad via small Hungarian villages. Boat trip to Bratislava in the afternoon.

Arrival by boat in Bratislava in the morning. Discover the small, lively capital of Slovakia today. Tip: enjoy a marvellous panoramic view from the Bratislava Castle and take a ride on the vintage train through the enchanting old town. Alternatively, you can explore the city on a guided cycle tour. At night, take a boat trip from Bratislava to the beautiful Wachau region.

The gentle hilly landscape, characterised by dreamy villages, wine terraces, castles, monasteries and ruins has enchanted everyone. The blue tower of the collegiate church, a landmark of the Wachau, towers above the baroque town of Dürnstein. In the afternoon, the imposing Melk Abbey, one of the most important baroque buildings in Austria, awaits you. You disembark again in Pöchlarn. A festive farewell dinner in the evening. Night cruise to Passau.

Relaxed and rested, you will reach Passau at around 11:00 am. Disembarkation around 11.30 am. We recommend booking train connections from approx. 13:30.
