Today it is worth taking a detour to Cosne sur Loire to visit the Museum of the Loire in an old Augustinian monastery. Your destination is a cosy hotel in Batilly-en-Puisaye.
Before todays tour start, possibility to visit the castle of Saint Fargeau and continue as already described in the original text to St. Fargeau and further to Lainsecq.
In Vézelay, the Basilica of Sainte Marie-Madeleine, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, awaits you.
In the countryside around the Yonne River and the Canal du Nivernais, you cycle to Vermeton. Your tour leads through picturesque towns such as Chatel-Censoir, Saussois and Mailly-le-Chateau.
A feast for wine connoisseurs. Today you reach the village of Irancy, famous for its Pinot Noir, and Chablis in the world-famous wine-growing region of the same name.
Today you visit a wine cellar in a cave in Bailly and taste the sparkling wine Crémant de Bourgogne before you reach the picturesque old town of Auxerre. Individual return journey or start of your extension.
The route
Easy to moderate difficult cycle tour with occasional small climbs in hilly countryside. The route leads along quiet side roads and towpaths.
