Nature reserve Altmühl "valley"
Nature reserve "Altmühl valley"

Your cycling trip begins in picturesque Kinding/Enkering, where the Altmühl, Anlauter and Schwarzach rivers meet in the Altmühl Valley Nature Reserve.
The Anlauter Valley leads you through an enchanting landscape en route to Treuchtlingen/Wettelsheim. Here you will come across the point where the plains of the Central Franconian Basin meet the southern reaches of the Franconian Jura. This striking border landscape is known as the “Treuchtlingen Gateway”.
You will have the opportunity to relax fully today on the shores of Lake Altmühl which was artificially created in 1985. There are numerous bathing points at the lake and the waters are perfect for a relaxing swim. Nature-lovers should take a trip to the Vogelinsel (Bird Island) where you can engage in a spot of bird-watching.
Today’s route showcases the Altmühl River from its most beautiful side as it makes it way through the steep, rocky landscape of the southern Franconian Jura. Shortly after Solnhofen is the well-known “Zwölf Apostel” (Twelve Apostles), a rock formation of the former Jurassic Sea.
Today you will cycle along the leisurely-flowing Altmühl in the direction of Kipfenberg. The Baroque Episcopal and university town of Eichstätt is worth a short visit with its impressive sights. After Eichstätt the impressive landscape of the now-wider Altmühl Valley continues.
After breakfast your cycling tour unfortunately comes to an end. We would, however, be more than happy to extend your stay.
The route
Mainly along separate cycling paths, a few of them are asphalted. There are a few hills on the first stage of the trip.
