The essentials at a glance

Cycle around Lake Constance through Germany, Switzerland, and Austria on mostly flat, paved paths. Visit medieval Stein am Rhein, the pilgrimage church Birnau, Meersburg Castle, and Lindau's island old town. Daily distances range from 30-65 km. Highlights include the spa town Überlingen, Friedrichshafen's aviation museum, and Bregenz with its famous lake stage. The route follows well-signposted cycle paths along the lake shore with opportunities for swimming breaks.

Itinerary

Arrival to Constance and handover of the bike (if booked) at the office of our partner . Then opportunity for a stroll.

The first stage of your cycling holiday follows the Swiss shore of the Untersee, the western part of Lake Constance, to the charming medieval town of Stein am Rhein. Renowned for one of the most beautiful historic town centres around the lake, the town captivates visitors with its richly painted façades and well-preserved half-timbered buildings. After exploring Stein am Rhein, continue just a few kilometres downstream along the Rhine to reach Gailingen.

Today you will circle the Höri peninsula and reach the spa town of Radolfzell. Visit the Radolfzell Minster, which has the highest church tower on Lake Constance. Over the Bodanrück (beware, hilly!) you will pass Bodman-Ludwigshafen and Sipplingen. Following the cycle path along the shore of Lake Überlingen, you will reach the town of the same name, Überlingen. From a distance you can already see the stately St. Nikolaus Minster. Stroll along the approximately five-kilometer-long lakeside promenade and enjoy the view of the lake and its
maritime flair

Today’s stage takes you along the Upper Lake, the main part of Lake Constance. One of the first highlights is the pilgrimage church of Birnau. Set amidst the vineyards, the forecourt of this magnificent Baroque church offers wonderful views across Lake Constance. In Unteruhldingen, take time to visit the fascinating Lake Dwelling
Museum, then explore Meersburg Castle, the oldest inhabited castle in Germany. In Friedrichshafen, the impressive aviation collection offers a fascinating insight into the history of flight. Along the way, enjoy the
beautiful views across the lake and towards the Alps.

On your way today you will soon reach Bregenz, the capital of Vorarlberg in Austria, famous for the annual Festival on the largest lake stage in the world. Finally you reach Höchst, cross the border again shortly after and cycle a few kilometres further to Rorschach, Horn or Arbon.

The last day of your tour takes you through Romanshorn with the largest lake port in Switzerland. We continue along Lake Constance back to Constance. On the way, you can always take bathing breaks. End your trip with a stroll through the old town or an ice cream at the harbour.

After breakfast individual return journey or start your extension at Lake Constance.

Note: When travelling with your own bikes, each stage location can be start/finish.

Easy

Most of the trip takes place on cycle paths or on quiet side roads, which are mostly paved. There are very few climbs along the whole route. The cycle path has its own signposting, which leads around the lake through all three countries.

Parking spaces at our partner's office in Konstanz, €59 per trip, reservation required at time of booking.
Parking garages (Fischmarkt, Dammgasse, Lago, Altstadt, Benediktinerplatz), cost approx. €25 per day.
