Cycling holidays at the Swabian Sea

Cycling holidays on Lake Constance are enjoying great popularity this year. The shallow shore paths at Lake Constance are ideal for beginners but also for holidaymakers who want to cycle relaxed. You cycle in front of the magnificent scenery of the Alps.

A very special flair on this bike trip

This classic tour covers the entire lake and all highlights such as the historic cities of Konstanz, Stein am Rhein, Meersburg and Lindau as well as the festival city of Bregenz. The first stage is slightly hilly, otherwise it is flat, mostly on own, asphalted bike paths near the shore around the lake.

The Lake Constance Cycle Path

This bicycle trail runs around Lake Constance with a length of about 260 kilometres. It is one of the most popular cycling routes in Europe. With an area of 536 km2, Lake Constance is the largest lake in Germany. One of the peculiarities is certainly that it belongs to Germany as well as to Austria and Switzerland. The climate around Lake Constance is very mild with warm summers and temperate winters and is therefore often referred to as Mediterranean. A perfect bike path!

Tourenverlauf

Arrival to Constance and handover of the bike (if booked) at the office of our partner . Then opportunity for a stroll.

On the southern shore of Lake Untersee you cycle along the lake through picturesque Swiss fishing villages to Stein am Rhein with its frescoed medieval houses. From there it is only a stone’s throw to the town of Gailingen or towards Wangen and Hemmenhofen.

Today you will go around the Höri peninsula, where Otto Dix and Hermann Hesse once lived. Take a break in Radolfzell, the old imperial and today’s spa town. Then you cross the Bodanrück and have to accept a very short climb. Arrival at the Überlinger See compensates with great views of the Swabian Sea.

Through vineyards you cycle to Friedrichshafen. Along the way, you will pass the baroque pilgrimage church Birnau. In Meersburg you should visit the beautiful old town and the old castle. In Friedrichshafen, a visit to the Zeppelin Museum is worthwhile. Your journey continues to Kressbronn or to the island town of Lindau.

On your way today you will soon reach Bregenz, the capital of Vorarlberg in Austria, famous for the annual Festival on the largest lake stage in the world. Finally you reach Höchst, cross the border again shortly after and cycle a few kilometres further to Rorschach, Horn or Arbon.

The last day of your tour takes you through Romanshorn with the largest lake port in Switzerland. We continue along Lake Constance back to Constance. On the way, you can always take bathing breaks. End your trip with a stroll through the old town or an ice cream at the harbour.

After breakfast individual return journey or start your extension at Lake Constance.

Note: When travelling with your own bikes, each stage location can be start/finish.

Tour character

Most of the trip takes place on cycle paths or on quiet side roads, which are mostly paved. There are very few climbs along the whole route. The cycle path has its own signposting, which leads around the lake through all three countries.
