Itinerary

Individual journey to the former imperial city of Schweinfurt. Round off the evening with a glass of good wine.

You drive through the Mainschleife region to Sommerach. The ‘Kostbar’ here offers wine advice, sales and tasting. A guided wine tour is available on some days.

Via Dettelbach with its well-preserved old town and other villages, you reach the Franconian wine-growing village of Sommerhausen and spend the night with a winegrower.

Experience the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Würzburg Residence today. Your route then takes you to Thüngersheim, which boasts a modern vinotheque, before continuing on to Karlstadt.

From Karlstadt, you can cycle or take the train (not included) to Gemünden or Lohr with its Spessart Museum in the castle, before reaching Homburg (vineyards: Edelfrau and Kallmuth).

Your route leads via Wertheim to Bürgstadt, which is famous for its red wines. Delicacies in the ‘Häckerwirtschaften’, the red wine hiking trail and St Martin's Chapel make the town attractive.

You cycle to Miltenberg and Großheubach, where red grape varieties such as Blauer Spätburgunder and Portugieser grow. Your journey finally takes you via Klingenberg to the Johannisburg sandstone castle in Aschaffenburg.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.

The cycle path runs almost exclusively along the banks of the Main, so the route is flat throughout and there are hardly any gradients to overcome. The paths are well developed, tarmac and well signposted. Also suitable for beginners and families.

Good railway connection to Schweinfurt. Hotel underground car park approx. € 10,- per day, no reservation possible, payable on site.

Return journey by train from Aschaffenburg or return transfer by minibus every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 09:00, € 95 per person. We charge € 40,- extra for the return transport of your own bike. Booking required.

Hotels

You will spend 2 nights in comfortable mid-range hotels and 5 nights on wine estates or in wine hotels. All rooms have a shower/WC or bath/WC.
