Itinerary

Individual journey to Munich. Information and bike hire. The state capital of Bavaria awaits its visitors with numerous sights (English Garden, Town Hall, Hofbräuhaus, ...).

From Munich through Forstenrieder Park to Lake Starnberg. From Starnberg on the cycle path directly along the lakeshore to Ambach or on to Bernried. The lake attracts visitors with its crystal-clear water and wonderful views of the surrounding mountains.

Firstly, cycle past the Riegsee lake to Murnau. Continue through the Murnauer Moos nature reserve (the largest moorland area in Central Europe) and through unspoilt nature following the river Loisach to Garmisch Partenkirchen. Here you can take a ride on the Zugspitzbahn railway to an altitude of 2962 m (1.8 mi) (on your own). From there you have a marvellous view over the Alps.

Cycle from Garmisch-Partenkirchen via Klais to the beautiful Barmsee lake. You then have the option of cycling directly to your overnight accommodation or taking a detour via Mittenwald and Scharnitz to the source of the Isar. A total of 300 metres (990 ft) in altitude are covered to Scharnitz, from there slightly uphill through wild and romantic gorges and lush alpine meadows to the source of the Isar. Return through the sunny high valley with marvellous panoramic views of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains via Mittenwald to Wallgau - a place where Bavarian traditions are still alive and well.

Following the crystal-clear, turquoise-blue waters of the Isar via Lenggries through atmospheric landscapes to Bad Tölz. The town at the intersection of two trade routes - the Isar and the old salt route from Reichenhall to the Allgäu - quickly developed into a flourishing trading centre. The richly decorated town houses bear witness to this heyday.

Through the charming Tegernsee countryside to Gmund am Tegernsee with its marvellous lake panorama. Along the Gaißbach valley back to Bad Tölz. The thermal waters of the famous ‘Alpamare’ spa will revitalise tired muscles. At the crossroads of old trade routes, Bad Tölz quickly developed into a flourishing town, today also known for the TV series ‘Der Bulle von Tölz’. Richly decorated town houses still bear witness to its heyday. The Tölzer Marktstraße invites you to stroll and look around.

The romantic Isar cycle path leads via Geretsried and Wolfratshausen to Grünwald. However, there are still a few small climbs to overcome before reaching the state capital of Munich with its numerous sights.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.
