Itinerary

Individual journey to Munich. Information and bike hire. The state capital of Bavaria awaits its visitors with numerous sights (English Garden, Town Hall, Hofbräuhaus, ...).

From Munich through Forstenrieder Park to Lake Starnberg. From Starnberg on the cycle path directly along the lakeshore to Ambach or on to Bernried. The lake attracts visitors with its crystal-clear water and wonderful views of the surrounding mountains.

You’ll follow beautiful paths through charming, traditional Bavarian villages, passing the Osterseen and Riegsee before reaching Murnau by Lake Staffel. Along the way, numerous lakes invite you to cool off. In Murnau, the Münter House offers a captivating experience where the town’s deep connection between art and music has Long shaped both its people and its architecture.

Today you cycle through the Murnauer Moos nature reserve (the largest moorland area in Central Europe) and through unspoilt nature following the river Loisach to Garmisch Partenkirchen. Here you can take a ride on the Zugspitzbahn railway to an altitude of 2962 m (on your own). From there you have a marvellous view over the Alps.

Cycle from Garmisch-Partenkirchen via Klais to the beautiful Barmsee lake. You then have the option of cycling directly to your overnight accommodation or taking a detour via Mittenwald and Scharnitz to the source of the Isar. A total of 300 metres in altitude are covered to Scharnitz, from there slightly uphill through wild and romantic gorges and lush alpine meadows to the source of the Isar. Return through the sunny high valley with marvellous panoramic views of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains via Mittenwald to Wallgau - a place where Bavarian traditions are still alive and well.

Following the crystal-clear, turquoise-blue waters of the Isar via Lenggries through atmospheric landscapes to Bad Tölz. The town at the intersection of two trade routes - the Isar and the old salt route from Reichenhall to the Allgäu - quickly developed into a flourishing trading centre. The richly decorated town houses bear witness to this heyday.

Ride through the charming Tegernsee landscape to Gmund by Lake Tegernsee, where you’ll enjoy stunning lake views. From there, the route follows the Gaißbach Valley back to Bad Tölz. The bustling market street in Bad Tölz invites you to stroll in the footsteps of a popular local German crime series, ‘Der Bulle von Tölz’.

The romantic Isar cycle path leads via Geretsried and Wolfratshausen to Grünwald. However, there are still a few small climbs to overcome before reaching the state capital of Munich with its numerous sights.

After breakfast, individual return journey or start of your extension.
