Mallorca round trip

Die größte Insel der Balearen

Well known island with unknown sides.

If this island was a woman, she would have the reputation of a fancy pin-up girl. However, meeting her, one would be astonished by her naturalness. Standing on steep cliffs, overlooking quiet bays, you will feel the charm of Mallorca far away from its rich night life. Mallorca can whisper too: In the hills in the interior of the island, the wheels of the mills are turning gently and you can hear the cicadas chirping in the grass. On this tour you will cycle uphill and downhill – some nice climbs and descents are awaiting you. Perhaps those ups and downs are symbolic of the turbulent, 2,000-year history of the largest Balearic Island? Both, the coast as well as the inland, have their own charms and you will get to know each of them. In the Dragon Caves of Porto Cristo you will experience how creative and sometimes bizarre the architecture of nature can be. The picturesque fishing villages and shimmering salt lakes will revive your sense of romance. And of course you will get many opportunities for swimming and sunbathing without booking a beach chair many hours in advance. “La Luminosa – The Enlightened One“ – that is how Mallorca is called by the Spaniards.  Doesn’t this sound more like the name of a saint than of a pin-up girl?

Itinerary

Any changes in the course of the trip (especially on the first two bike stages) must be reserved in February and March due to hotels till closed!

Take a taxi from the airport to your first hotel in Playa de Palma (approx. 10 km).

Welcome reception and discussion of the tour. Your first stage will take you along the coast to Capocorp Vell, the Realm of the Cyclops (remnants of the native inhabitant dwellings). Typical wind mills line the way to the salt fields of Llevant with its pink and white shimmering salt lakes. In Sant Jordi, sandy beaches with crystal clear water are awaiting you.

Today, you will cycle through Ses Salines to a botanical garden and visit the picturesque bay of Cala Santanyi. Later, you will continue your journey through small fishing villages to the famous natural bridge “Es Pontas”. At Porto Cristo you will discover the Dragon Caves with their bizarre images and shapes.

On the fourth day, you will cycle through the sedate village Son Carrio to Manacor, the city of the Majoricas beads and pottery. Afterwards, your journey will take you through Santa Margalida (Mallorca’s most beautiful town square) and through one of the most charming landscapes of the island to C’an Picafort.

You do not need to pack your suitcase today. You will stay for another night in C’an Picafort. Today’s tour will take you through a bird park (nature reserve) to the Bay of Pollensa (Roman port). Later, you will continue along the coast to Alcúdia (oldest city of the island) and back to C’an Picafort.

Today you will cycle inland through Muro and Inca to the mountains cape of the Sierra de Tramuntana. A bus will take you to the Lluc monastery (possibility for sightseeing) and later to 1,200 m above sea level. Afterwards, you will continue your trip through Fornalutx (most beautiful village in Spain), and partly through orange and lemon plantations to Port de Sóller, one of the most charming fishing villages of the island. Usually, you will get the chance to enjoy an excellent paella meal in Fornalutx (inclusive).

The nostalgic train will take you through the valley of oranges down to the capital Palma (picking fruits is prohibited during the train ride.). There, you will get a guided tour of the old town with its cathedral. Later, you will continue by bike along the coast to Playa de Palma.

The route

The different stages are easy to moderate in severity: Some climbs will be followed by pleasant descents; more difficult stages will be taken by bus. You will cycle mainly on side roads, country roads, as well as on some beaten tracks, avoiding traffic as much as possible.

Bademöglichkeiten an schönen Stränden.
