A popular cycle trip at best price

The essentials at a glance

This self-guided cycling roundtrip through the Palatinate combines wine culture with Rhine Valley scenery. The easy to moderate route covers approximately 50-55 km daily through romantic wine villages, visiting highlights including Speyer Cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage), Baroque Rastatt Palace, medieval Landau, and the Alsatian town of Wissembourg. Cycling mainly on flat terrain with minor inclines near vineyards, the tour includes 5 nights in 3-star hotels with breakfast, luggage transport, and digital navigation.

Through the vineyards and the Rhine Valley

As you cycle along the German Wine Route, Germany’s second-largest wine-growing region, a true paradise for the senses unfolds before you. The scent of ripe fruit fills the air, while the trees bear their sweet treasures within arm’s reach. In addition to experiencing wine culture up close, you can look forward to charming wine-growing villages and historic towns. Explore the Baroque residence in Raststatt and cycle through the Palatinate’s largest nature reserve, the Hördter Rheinauen, to visit the former fortified town of Germersheim. Between the Wine Route and the Rhine, a landscape full of delight, warmth, and joie de vivre awaits you - a cycling tour that delights both the heart and the palate.

Itinerary

Travel to Neustadt an der Weinstraße on your own. In the late afternoon, there will be an orientation session and bike pickup (if booked). Spend your first evening strolling through the romantic old town and get in the mood for your journey through one of Germany’s most beautiful regions.

The route winds through romantic wine-growing villages with a unique atmosphere. In the former fortified town of Landau, you’ll visit the medieval municipal department store on Rathausplatz, and in Klingenmünster, you’ll enjoy the view of the Rhine Valley from Landeck Fortress. At the end of the stage, the Baroque castle, the historic “Engel” inn, and the Westwall Museum are all worth seeing.

Ride through the Weintor in Schweigen and head straight to Wissembourg in Alsace, home to its former Benedictine abbey. Enjoy a leisurely bike ride through the Bienwald Forest and the Lauter Valley to the Rhine. The Baroque palace in Rastatt provides a spectacular end to the day.

After a very scenic stretch along the Rhine, the route takes you past the former royal seat of Karlsruhe, with its palace and pyramid. Passing through the Palatinate’s largest nature reserve, the Hördter Rheinauen, you’ll arrive in the former fortified town of Germersheim.

The “Old Father” Rhine takes you to the imperial city of Speyer and its impressive cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the Rhine Valley, the route now heads back toward the wine-growing region. You’ll follow the bike path along the Speyerbach stream and cycle leisurely back to the tour’s starting point in Neustadt an der Weinstraße.

After breakfast individual departure or start of your extension stay.
