Lake Garda – based in one hotel

Hotel BLU Lake Sirmione

Hotel and location:

The Hotel BLU Lake Sirmione is situated in a privileged location in Sirmione, within walking distance of one of the most beautiful places on Lake Garda. It is a well-equipped hotel of the upper middle class, which has nicely renovated rooms with balcony. Many of the rooms are located on the lake side and when the blue of the lake shimmers through between the palm trees it is truly idyll.

Breakfast included in the price is offered in buffet form, very lovingly prepared and with everything you could wish for. Also the service was all around friendly and helpful.

On the rooftop is the pool with several small terraces for relaxing and sunbathing. And above all with a spectacular all-round view over the town and Lake Garda. Fantastic to relax here after an eventful cycling day at sunset!

The BLU Lake Hotel has an underground car park (18,- € per day), which is urgently needed when arriving by car, as you are not allowed to park anywhere else in the town. The bicycles are also safely parked here.

Only a few steps across the road runs the beautifully landscaped promenade along the lake. Here you like to linger with a delicious cappucino or a crispy pizza. Always along the lake, you will reach the historical centre of Sirmione, famous for its unique ice cream. Many cafés and restaurants invite you to linger, there is even a beach section and there are beautiful boat tours around the peninsula.

Cycling stages

Sirmione – Verona

In the morning cycle to Desenzano to the train station (8 km), train ride to Verona (about 30 minutes) and back by bike (about 50 km). A little more time should be planned up to the station of Desenzano. There is a lift at the station (somewhat hidden in the outer building) to transport the bikes. A great tour, Verona is very worth seeing. Since you also have to cycle back, you can take advantage of the rest day to ride again without a bike in peace to Verona and enjoy the day there.

Sirmione – Brescia

In the morning cycle via Desenzano (8 km) to Brescia (about 48 km) and back by train (about 15 min) to Desenzano and further to Sirmione (8 km). I found Brescia not as interesting as Verona or Mantua, but the bike path back went through very beautiful countryside and was also easy to find.

Sirmione – Trient

In the morning by transfer bus via Rovereto to Trento (approx. 1. 5 hours), cycle back to Riva to the northern Lake Garda (approx. 50 km), departure by boat at 3:20 pm via Lake Garda to Sirmione (approx. 4 hours). I took the transfer bus only to Rovereto (half of the route) and then I cycled the 25 km back to Lake Garda in peace. I made a stop in Mori at the ice cream parlour Bologna and used the voucher of Eurobike for an ice cream: fantastic! There is a short slope behind Mori, not long, but with normal wheels you have to push. At Nago you should definitely stop at the view café and enjoy the fantastic panoramic view of Lake Garda. Afterwards, we take an exhilarating descent directly to Torbole, on the northern Lake Garda. Now it is not far to Riva, the most enchanting town on North Garda Lake. Here the ship “home” awaits you at 15. 20 o’clock. Pleasure 4 hours on Lake Garda complete a wonderful day.

The most beautiful bike track of the week!

Sirmione – Solferino

By bike via Desenzano (8 km) to Solferino (about 34 km) and back via Desenzano to Sirmione (8 km). Solferino is located south of Lake Garda. The route there is well signposted by Eurobike and you can drive through a lot of vineyards and agricultural land, often slightly hilly. The place itself is manageable, but very picturesque. If the weather is good, you can look up to Lake Garda. Since I was cycling late, I went to the Eurobike recommended Trattoria “Il Fiore” in Vaccarolo for an early lunch on the way: not very cheap, but a wonderful meal (the best I had during the whole tour).

Sirmione – Mantua

In the morning cycle to Mantua (about 65 km), back by train via Verona to Desenzano (about 2 hours) and from there cycle back to Sirmione (8 km). The distance was too far for me, so I drove there by car. The city is beautifully situated, surrounded by 3 artificial lakes, in beautiful countryside and impresses with its architectural beauty and diverse culture. The historical centre offers beautiful opportunities to enjoy Lombard cuisine in one of the many restaurants. Mantua is definitely worth a visit!
