Why it is so beautiful at the river Rhine? The scenic river region between Cologne and Coblenz gives you many answers to this question. On daily tours with bicycle and ship - always starting in Königswinter - you will experience world-famous buildings like the Cologne Cathedral and the Beethoven House in Bonn as well as natural spectacles like the cold water geyser in Andernach. You cycle through fantastic landscapes, where a lot of fruits grow as well as vines for very good wines. You drive to water castles and romantic towns like Linz, Remagen and Coblenz. Hedonists will love this journey as much as nature lovers and romantics.

Itinerary

Individual arrival in Königswinter. At the late afternoon: info talk and issue of hired bikes (if booked).

Starting in Niederdollendorf the ferry (not inclusive) takes you to Bad Godesberg. At the Godesburg (castle)  you have a wonderful view onto the Rhine valley and the Siebengebirge. Via Bonn with its more than 2000 years old history and Zündorf with the leisure island Groov you reach Cologne with the famous cathedral. The train (inclusive) takes you from Cologne back to Königswinter (about 45 km).

Today you get to know the valley of the river Ahr, a paradise for nature and culture lovers, Wine lovers and gourmets. Ferry (not inclusive) and train (inclusive) take you to Altenahr. You cycle on the Ahr cycleway through little wine villages like Dernau into the beautiful town Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. From Remagen you cycle alongside the river Rhine to the ferry (not inclusive). (about 45 km)

The ship takes you at first to Linz. You experience the region, known as the „Golden Mile“ and located between Remagen and Bad Breisig as well as the world famous highest cold water geyser in Andernach, before you reach Coblenz with the fortress Ehrenbreitstein. The train (inclusive) takes you back to Königswinter. (about 45 km)

You cycle into the apple-, roses- and arboretum-town Meckenheim. Today you will see the water castles Gudenau, Lüftelsberg, Münchhausen, Adendorf and Odenhausen on your route. The stage leads you out of the Rhine valley and is therefore a bit hilly. Alternatively you enjoy a day in the town or choose a shorter tour. The ferry (not inclusive) takes you back to the hotel. (about 49/29 km)

After breakfast individual return journey or prolongation of your holiday.

The route

Easy to moderate heavy! You cycle on small road with low traffic and through a flat to slightly hilly terrain.  The trip to the water castle route (Wasserburgen Route) is more hilly. You don’t have to cycle the route. Enjoy a stay in the bath are of the hotel or do the slightly hilly trip on this route.

How to get there

Fly to Cologne/Bonn or Düsseldorf. Take the train from Cologne/Bonn airport to the main train station of Königswinter. Good rail connection to Königswinter, Duration approx. 0,5 h. Train from Düsseldorf airport, Duration approx. 1,5 h.

Parking

Park garage, payable on site, no reservation possible. , zahlbar vor Ort. Keine Reservierung erforderlich. The discounted daily rate (minimum stay 5 nights) costs 10,- € per night.

Klasse Hotel - Aber erhebliche Einschränkungen beim Transport mit der DB
Grundsätzlich sollte diese Fahrt 5 Sterne bekommen, denn sowohl das MARITIM Hotel (mit der Klimaanlage auf den Zimmern) als auch der Streckenverlauf haben es verdient. Aber: 1. Bei der Rückfahrt von Koblenz ist von Linz nach Königswinter eine Schiffsetappe vorgesehen. Das Schiff fährt nur einmal um 16:50 Uhr ab Linz. Meines Erachtens entsteht hier aber nur unnötiger Zeitdruck, das Schiff zu erwischen. Das kann herausgenommen werden. 2. Die Bahnhöfe in Mehlem & Königswinter haben leider keine Rampe für Fahrräder. Je nach Fahrtrichtung müssen die Räder (auch E-Bikes!) 2 Treppen hoch- bzw heruntergetragen werden. 3. Zwischenfälle mit der DB/VRS innerhalb unserer 4 Tage: a) Hinfahrt nach Ahrbrück - der Zug endet ohne Ankündigung in Remagen. Damit kann die Tour nicht wie geplant absolviert werden. Die Zugkarte ist aber bereits bezahlt. b) der RE8 (Start in Köln zur Rückfahrt) endet wegen Personenschaden in St. Augustin-Menden. Die Reststrecke nach Königswinter mußte zusätzlich geradelt werden, da die DB keine Fahrräder transportierte. c) der RE8 (Start in Königswinter in Richtung Koblenz) fällt mehrmals am Tag aus. 4. Die Tour, die absolut problemlos geklappt hat, war die große Wasserburgen-Route, weil sie ohne VRS oder Bundesbahn durchgeführt werden konnte. Als Fazit kann gesagt werden, daß die DB der große Pferdefuß 3 von 4 Tagesetappen war. Damit wurden die Tagesabläufe kräftig durcheinander geschüttelt. Nicht jeder hat so viel Fahrradkarten mit, um dann blitzschnell umdisponieren zu können. Hier sollte Rückenwind zukünftig insofern darauf reagieren, als Alternativ-Strecken oder Alternativ-Beförderungsmittel angeboten werden. Dennoch - per Saldo - ein Super-Hotel in toller Lage + eine wunderschöne Radel-Gegend an Rhein und Ahr.
