In the ranking of the world’s most popular cuisines, Italy has once again taken first place. 85 per cent of the more than 25,000 respondents said they preferred Italian food. With their fresh, tasty dishes, the Italians clearly have nothing to be ashamed of, not even when compared to the culinary arts of the French.
Antipasti as a starter, pizza and pasta as the main course, and dolci for dessert – Italian cuisine is known and loved around the world. Italian sausages and cheeses have also become a staple in local supermarkets, whilst olive oil from Tuscany and balsamic vinegar from the province of Reggio Emilia can be found in almost every German kitchen. Numerous aperitifs, cocktails and liqueurs such as limoncello, amaretto and grappa, as well as white and red wines from Italy, are also extremely popular.
